Dan was born and raised in Bergen County, NJ and moved to Springfield, NJ in 1990. He started learning chimney and construction work as a kid alongside his father: mixing cement, laying brick, working on boilers, and walking roofs.
Chimney work is serious business. Plenty of chimneys look fine from the street while something inside is quietly setting up a house fire or leaking gas into the home — and Dan's job is finding what everyone else misses.

A client told Dan she'd had headaches for twenty years and needed medication. She only felt better sitting by an open window in winter. When her furnace ran at full capacity, exhaust gases were escaping into the house.
Her furnace had been converted from oil to gas. PSE&G searched for a leak and found nothing, and they were about to replace the gas meter the day Dan was called. Nobody had checked the furnace pipe leading to the chimney. Dan found it red hot and rusted through along the bottom for about three and a half feet, because the chimney was completely blocked.
When the new gas furnace went in, no one cleaned the old creosote out of the chimney. Heat and condensation from the gas furnace hardened it into a solid mass, streaked blue, green, orange and yellow. Dan had to jackhammer it out. Problem solved.

Dan lived in Milan, Florence and Rome for three years, picking up masonry techniques from European builders and stone masons.
He also studied architectural drafting, so he plans the work as carefully as he builds it.
